Located west of 610, the City of Bunker Hill Village offers a genteel, almost countrified way of life that seems miles away from the hustle of big city living. The City of Bunker Hill Village was incorporated in 1954 by residents who wanted to preserve this tree lined enclave nestled in the heart of Memorial. Bunker Hill beckons families with its excellent schools, as well as superior police and fire departments. Considered by many to be the neighborhood’s finest asset, Bunker Hill strives to make its public schools among the finest in the country. Additionally, Bunker Hill’s close proximity to Houston’s well heeled shopping and entertaining venues, has kept property values strong throughout the years. The homes consist of those built in the 1950’s/1960’s, having extensive remodeling, to recent construction by custom builders. The median home price as of March 2012 was $1.5 Million.
The neighborhood includes approximately 1,307 homes surrounded by award winning schools. Elementary age children attend Frostwood, Bunker Hill, or Memorial Drive Elementary. The Middle Schools that serve the area are Memorial Middle School to the west and Spring Branch Middle School on Piney Point Road. The senior high is Memorial High School, and it offers a competitive environment for college preparation. Most recently, Frostwood Elementary, Memorial Middle and Memorial High School were included on the list of Texas Monthly’s best public schools in Texas.
The Memorial Villages Police Department serves Bunker Hill and provides 24 hour a day/7 days a week marked patrol car coverage. The Village Fire Department utilizes the most up to date equipment available as well as highly trained personnel, and has earned the Insurance Service Organization (ISO) rating of “2,” which lowers fire insurance considerably.
The City is governed by a Mayor, a Mayor Pro Tem, and four council members. Through the years, the city council has adopted ordinances establishing zoning regulations that have effectively preserved the characteristics that make the City such a unique and desirable location.
